Volumetric Impedance Based Flow-through Immunosensor Using an Integrated Electrode Array and Silver Enhancment

A novel impedance-based thermoplastic flow-through immunosensor is presented which integrates a porous polymer monolith capture element with an interdigitated electrode array (IDA). The technique employs a volumetric impedance sensing zone and a direct assay with secondary antibody labeled gold nanoparticles (Ab-AuNP). The captured gold nanoparticles are silver enhanced causing an impedance drop correlated to target concentration. The detection limit is 1.28*10 -12 M Ab-AuNP after 15 min silver enhancement and 1.28*10 -14 M of Ab-AuNP after 30 min silver enhancement. The results demonstrate a rapid, sensitive, low-cost technique that is adaptable to many biological targets.
